A sodium-dependent trehalose transporter contributes to anhydrobiosis in insect cell line, Pv11
Published in Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 2024
Identification of STRT1 (sodium-ion trehalose transporter 1), an SLC5 family member that transports trehalose in a sodium-dependent manner. Knockout of Strt1 significantly reduces Pv11 cell viability upon rehydration after desiccation, demonstrating its critical role in alleviating osmotic stress during recovery from anhydrobiosis.
